The Edo government on Monday announced a state funeral plan for music legend Sir Victor Uwaifo in Benin.
Legendary singer, guitarist and crooner Joromi passed away on August 28 at the age of 80.
Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, made the announcement during a press briefing also attended by members of the late Uwaifo’s family in Benin.
Iyoha also revealed that plans are underway to immortalize the late music legend.
Iyoha said âwhen legends like this spread, it is always good to have something to immortalize them.
âIn the next few days you will know what the state government is doing in this regard. I’m sure it will be unveiled in the next few days at the funeral, âhe said.
The chief of staff revealed that Uwaifo’s state funeral would begin on Thursday, October 14, with tributes, a vigil mass / chanting service at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium from 2 p.m. in Benin.
He said the lie would take place at Ogbe Stadium, Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, on October 15 at 1:00 p.m. followed by the burial.
“October 16 and 17 would be dedicated to social activities and a service of thanksgiving at the Garrick playground, Ekenwan Road, and at the Catholic Holy Cross Cathedral, Mission Road, in Benin,” he said. added.
Iyoha said the state government will join the family in giving Uwaifo a dignified burial, adding that he is a music icon and a man who put Nigeria on the world map.
Uwaifo family spokesman Chris Osaretin praised the state government for its support, adding that Uwaifo’s in-depth work has become a benchmark for measuring entertainment in Nigeria.
