HOUSTON — A 56-year-old former elementary school teacher in the Houston Independent School District was sentenced to federal prison after he admitted receiving and possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery announced Friday.
Robert Gasper Peri was arrested in January 2020 after the execution of a warrant at his Sugar Land home and pleaded guilty on December 9, 2020.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison sentenced him to 135 months in federal prison. Peri will also serve 10 years of probation at the end of his prison sentence, during which time he will have to comply with numerous demands aimed at restricting his access to children and the Internet. He will also be ordered to compensate the victims and will also be ordered to register as a sex offender.
Peri has had access to children for over 30 years as a music teacher. He was a teacher at Memorial Elementary School before his arrest.
The investigation revealed that he had communicated and trafficked in child pornography with other people.
In October 2019, law enforcement officials learned that Peri’s email address was distributing alleged child pornography. Authorities executed a search warrant for his email address and residence, at which point they seized various electronic devices.
Forensic analysis uncovered 706 images and 143 videos of child pornography including children under five, sadism and masochism.
Peri was allowed to remain on bail and voluntarily attend a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation.
