A 49-year-old New Jersey man who thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex on Tuesday has been arrested by investigators.
Richard J. Kostrub, from Somerdale, had been communicating for about a month with someone he thought was a teenager on a chat app and via tex before agreeing to meet at Walmart on Route 70 in Evesham, the Burlington County Attorney’s Office noted.
In reality, Kostrub had been in contact with an agent from the US Department of Homeland Security, officials said.
“Before orchestrating the date, Kostrub sent a photo of a naked young girl to the person he thought he was meeting,” the prosecutor’s office said. “During the conversation, he said he wanted to take his virginity.”
Kostrub is charged with luring, attempted sexual assault, multiple counts of distribution and possession of child pornography material as well as attempted criminal sexual contact.
He is being held at the Burlington County Jail ahead of a detention hearing. Information about Kostrub’s lawyer was not immediately available.
The Burlington County District Attorney’s Office and Evesham Police assisted federal authorities with the investigation.
