On Monday, October 4, the elegant Music Hall at Rosario Resort and Spa will be the setting for a lively lounge concert of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival Solo Piano Concert at 5 p.m.
The evening’s program, Jon Kimura Parker: Fantasies and Beyond, weaves two very different fantasies among works by WA Mozart, Maurice Ravel, Franz Schubert, John Adams and William Hirtz. Husband of the founder and artistic director of the OICMF, Aloysia Friedmann, Jon Kimura “Jackie” Parker is the artistic advisor of the Festival. He is on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and is a veteran of international concert stages, performing concertos with the world’s most renowned orchestras. He is Artistic Director of the Honens International Piano Competition and was recently named Creative Partner of the Minnesota Orchestra Hall Series Summer at Orchestra Hall. Born and raised in Canada, Jackie studied at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the University of British Columbia, the Banff Center and the Juilliard School. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and received honorary doctorates from the University of British Columbia and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Tickets for the concert cost $ 50 each and can be purchased at oicmf.org or by calling 360-376-6636. For the safety and comfort of all participants, spectators must present proof of Covid-19 vaccination upon arrival and face masks are required at all times inside the building. Seating is very limited with the social distance spacing between parties.
