Rockin ‘the Ranch music event returns to San Angelo after COVID hiatus

SAN ANGELO – A two-day concert benefiting the West Texas Boys Ranch returns to San Angelo after coronavirus put music on hiatus last year.

Starting Friday, October 1, 2021, the House of FiFi DuBois, 123 S. Chadbourne Street, in downtown San Angelo, will host “Rockin ‘the Ranch”. Deemed to be a weekend of “wonderful musical talent from all over Texas,” the concert will feature musical performances by Midnight River Choir, The Whites of Texas, Cari Hutson and others.

Over the past few years, Rockin ‘the Ranch has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the efforts of the West Texas Boys Ranch, a nonprofit organization providing structure and shelter for boys aged 10 to 17 who know difficulties.

“We have this crazy musical celebration every year for the West Texas Boys Ranch,” said Toni Hunter, who helps organize the event. “Last year, of course, we were shut down, but we were still able to write them a check for almost $ 5,000.”

The Texas Jamm Band performs on New Years Eve at the House of Fifi Dubois in downtown San Angelo on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

In 2019, before the pandemic, Hunter said the concert raised significantly more money to the tune of $ 22,000. It’s a feat she hopes to surpass in 2021 despite the recent increase in positive COVID cases.

“I’ll take anything, obviously, but we would like to beat the 2019 amount to catch up to 2020,” Hunter said, noting that precautions were in place to help limit the spread of the virus.

“We’ll keep the room pretty separate. We have tables spaced 6 to 10 feet apart. There are 14 foot high ceilings, so you’re not stuck in a tight space,” Hunter said. “We have big doors. We hope to be able to open them wide at the front of the room.”

Hunter said many musical performances will be staged throughout the day, and she encouraged viewers to purchase a $ 20 bracelet to see all of the acts.

“You can come and go,” Hunter said. “With a $ 20 bracelet, you can see the Friday and Saturday shows and get food at the Chuck Wagon Snack Bar.”

“At the end of the day, it all depends on how much money we can raise and give these boys,” Hunter said. “It’s an amazing local charity and a very, very good cause.”
